An unexpected guest.

In those ten years, we had all sorts of last-minute plans: we were ready for something unique again. It's important to hire professionals who have experiences to have the most pleasant experience possible, regardless of setbacks or unexpected events.

Crista and Josh were finally able to get married after long months of waiting. But the weather did not cooperate at all.

In Alberta, August is gorgeous. Very little rain, maybe three days at the start of the month, and hot temperatures.

Just together.

We were lucky enough to have an hour or so, just before the hit of the storm with the couple.

So we've decided to go to a beautiful park and mix the backgrounds and poses as much as possible to get some photos. At this point, we knew the weather would probably turn pretty bad. The birds and winds were strange, but we haven't said anything to keep a positive mind and energy.

Love is the most important!

Our role in this kind of situation is to do everything to make the couple feel good and relaxed. It's one of the most important days of their lives, and we don't want to be among those who panic or have doubts. On the contrary, we want to cheer up and remove sad thoughts and disappointment.

We always create a fun and romantic moment, hiding our technical challenges. The most important for us is to know that the bride and groom can focus on themself only as they will have to think about the well-being of their guests after.

Wild like the wind.

That's why we always insist on having one hour or two with them alone.

The newlyweds realized afterward that this little moment was the part they enjoyed the most because they were together.

The storm was there!

The wedding day was the coldest and wettest day of the entire month!

A kind of storm with violent wind and heavy rain. People were bundled up in coats and sweaters over their nice outfits!

The couple had to alter some of their plans as first, the idea was to have a dusky sunset ceremony surrounded by nature and soft lighting. Crista loves all kinds of flowers and plants so it was fitting. The couple also loves the clean simplicity of the Tuscan-style wedding decor combined with the family-style dinner setting...

But plans had to change, and everyone pitched in to move it indoors.

Lights and candles.

As we work with portative light (we are not natural light Photographers), we know we can deal with dark skies or rooms. Our couple didn't have to get worried about pushing back their ceremony to the night. They were waiting for a lull that never came. So, the boys (kids and kids' boyfriends) pitched in the help move stuff from outside to inside for the ceremony in the pouring rain and it was the most memorable moment! Seeing the motivation and the positive attitude of families and friends was very special!

Let’s party!

We had to deal with that last-minute light changes, fortunately, we were ready for anything. We packed on the morning extra lights we put on every corner to create pleasant lights and we've been working on bokeh to bring a bit of magic. We had to think fast and look for a solution in a few seconds.

For the evening party, we also added color gels (the DJ lights are not showing up on camera most of the time) to freeze a movement or emotions with something else than a boring white flash. We also dance with our guests to create intimacy and they love it! They can act normally and we love to dance ;)

The bride’s interview!

  • Josh messaged me out of the blue on IG and invited me to a concert. I turned him down as I had no idea who he was. We met weeks later at a different show and as soon as our eyes met I knew my single life was over. Here we are 5 years later, madly in love and married.

  • He “fell” out of the boat while we were fishing with friends and pretended to drown. It was quite the scene. He came up from underwater to the side of the boat, with a ring, and proposed. I’ve never been so confused, then mad, then happy in my life.

  • We wanted to have an evening sunset ceremony surrounded by nature and soft lighting. I love all kinds of flowers and plants so it was fitting. We also love the clean simplicity of the Tuscan style wedding decor combined with the family-style dinner setting.

  • Our photo wall, the music, and having my dad walk me down the aisle. We weren’t sure last year that he was going to make it to the wedding due to health issues.

  • Lighting for the outdoor dinner area, and inside the reception tent.

  • My dress (bought an as-is sample dress), and I bought a lot of fabulous used items for decor.

  • It was difficult finding catering. Lots of places didn’t even reply to inquiries because they were “too busy”. Supply chain issues for faux flowers and shoes were an issue too.

  • Well, yes and no. The day was busy, as expected. But the weather did not cooperate. Here in Alberta, we had a gorgeous August. Very little rain, maybe 3 days at the start of the month and hot temperatures. Our wedding day was the coldest and wettest day of the entire month. People were bundled up in coats and sweaters over their nice outfits! We had to alter some of our plans and did not get to fulfill our vision of the dusky sunset ceremony. But we just rolled with it and everyone pitched in to move it indoors and the whole wedding day was just magical! Our guests hung in there and enjoyed the party.

  • Spend the entire reception together. We were so busy visiting we barely saw each other all night and we regret that. If we could do it over again we would let the guests come to us. It’s such a whirlwind and then it’s over. Also, hire a day of assistance. She was invaluable. Her name is Keltie Butz, Style & Grace Wedding and Event planning.

  • It was absolutely helpful! I couldn’t imagine not meeting them before hand, on Zoom or in person.

  • There were many, of course, my husband’s face when I was walking up the aisle, but I think how all the boys (kids and kids’ boyfriends) pitched in the help move stuff from outside to inside for our ceremony in the pouring rain is the most memorable.

  • It was like living the day over again. And getting to enjoy moments that we didn’t see ourselves.

  • We had no idea what to expect, but Virginie and Samuel were so incredible. Worked with all our little requests, and the bad weather. Made us feel positive about the photos being “moody” with the dark skies. We had a lot of fun!!
